Sahar Al Yaseer is a highly talented architect and interior designer and is the founder of La Bottega by Intice interior design studio. While the studio is based in Dubai UAE, Sahar works all around the world and specializes in luxury residential and hospitality projects.
Sahar was kind enough to answer a few questions about their work with interior design.
Hi Sahar, could you tell us about your background, and how you became an interior designer?
I was always very passionate about 3D rendering and digital architecture since I was at university. After my graduation, I got married, and I went to Australia in which I took a professional course in 3D rendering. I came back to Dubai and started as a freelancer, and 2 years later, I started my own office that provides very high-end rendering and animation services. Gladly, we became a leading company in the UAE. I worked with so many well-known interior design studios, developers, architecture firms from all over the world, including UAE, KSA, Qatar, UK, LA, Hong Kong etc. I’ve gained a lot of valuable experience in interior design since then, and our clients trust us to do fantastic interior design services with them, along with renderings. A few years ago, we opened an interior design studio that provides high-end design services.
What piece in your portfolio are you most proud of?
There is no particular piece because I believe a true designer puts his heart into each project so that it becomes part of him. Every project I’ve worked on, even the ones I did at the very beginning of my career, I am very proud of.
How do you handle the technical challenges on your projects?
Great design is a result of passion, experience, and of course, a skilled team. Having a skilled team is to have qualified people behind you that can handle all the technical issues from detailed drawings to specifications, and so on, until the end. To answer your question, I believe each project has its own unique technical challenges that we always strive to fix perfectly.
How do you prioritize tasks for a renovation project?
By the deadline – renovation means people have lived or are still living in this house, and they only want to redesign it or restyle it again, so you have to be fast and sharp. You must fulfil the client`s requirements as soon as possible, so the property is useable again.
What do you need to consider when designing?
Two main things – first client`s feedback because you always have to remember that what might look like a great design for you, it might not be very convenient for the client. The second thing is the use of space, the aim of any design shouldn’t be only to create beautiful spaces but also a place where the user can feel comfortable in it.
Is there any interior design style you favour/dislike?
This is a hard question, as you know, the design trends change every year. For me, I don’t have a particular style that is favor or dislike as each one has beauty. With that said, I found myself very attracted to Joseph Dirand and Thomas Pheasant’s style, it brings the serene look I believe every design should have.
How do you keep up with industry changes?
Any Industry has ups and downs. The main thing is to stay updated and ride the wave, rather than sink in it.
What are your favorite interior design tips?
- Go neutral overall and add colors on accessories and cushions, so whenever you get bored, you can change the mood easily.
- Pay attention to details.
- Hang nice pendant light or chandeliers because lighting can make or break the design.
- Dress up your walls.
