If you’re someone who thinks they can’t dance, then Mikhail Eremeev from Galaxy Dance would be quick to disagree with you. As a highly experienced dancer and instructor, Mikhail is a passionate advocate of the artistic merits of dance, as well as its power in connecting people, as well as giving them a sense of achievement and confidence.
Mikhail was kind enough to answer a few questions.
What dance styles do you teach?
We teach Ballroom (Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep) and Latin-American dances (Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Pasodoble, Jive), Wedding choreography and series of American Smooth for Waltz, American Smooth Tango, American Smooth Foxtrot, American Smooth Viennese waltz).
What excites you most about dancing/ teaching others?
Dance activities connect people to their passion who love dancing, like personal expression, music interpretation, about friendships and grow together with vibrant and healthy dance experiences. I do believe that each person has a gift which can easily open through the dance. In dance you can be anyone, can express, be yourself o play any other rolls.
What made you decide to set up your own dance class studio?
The idea to open our own dance studio came as no choice, we were working for another studio.
For some reason, company management decided to change the dance studio to another type of business, so we received notice about it. That time we had a lot of students and working pass which have only 2 months. So we don’t have a choice to incorporate our own company.
How would you say you differentiate yourself from other dance class studios?
We’re TOP 7th Professional Show Dancers in the globe, National Representative for Singapore and 1st to raise the country to this level. We have 28 years of competitive dance experience. I believe that “The quality of LIFE is the quality of RELATIONSHIPS”. Our dream to raise champions for Singapore and to grow a champion team spirit and achieve for our team world-class results.
The mission is to connect people into passionate communities who love dancing, like to learn, build friendships, and grow together with vibrant and healthy dance experiences.
We do believe that is so important to create a culture of support, respect and empowering atmosphere where people really take care and inspired each other, share their experience, knowledge and grow together.
Were their many significant hurdles you had to overcome during your career/ when setting up your business?
The biggest is not becoming a world champion. Very hard to deal with that when you put so many years of your life especially your time with children, family, sleep, being a father, being a husband, business owner, being a friend etc. This, even more, pushes me to achieve a new goal – using my experience to train world champions for Singapore.
What do you believe to be your most significant achievement to date?
We brought Singapore to the highest level in history – 7th place in the World Professional in Ballroom Snow Dance.
Do you have any advice for individuals who want to start learning to dance but think they are too old?
We have students from 5 until 73 years old. Just search for the nearest studio and take the opportunity to express your feelings and emotions. Dancing is an excellent anti-aging treatment. Start to dance. It’s never too late, everyone can dance, we have programs for different levels and age. One of my favourite quote “You don’t stop dancing because you grow old – grow old because you stop dancing”
Thank you Mikhail for your time!
