The mysterious appearance of a giant rubber duck in Lake Michigan has brought joy to local residents.
A 25-foot rubber duck appeared in Lake Michigan near Navy Pier before Chicago residents woke up today and nobody knows how it got there.
The oversized sunglasses and cheeky grin of the bright yellow duck turned it into a social media phenomenon in no time. The giant rubber duck floating in Lake Michigan has earned the nickname “Quackie Chan” and people are gathering at the lakefront to take photos and ride paddleboats near their new giant duck friend.
The city has confirmed no permit was issued for the duck but has no immediate plans to remove it. A city spokesperson remarked that after a difficult year they decided to let the joy-bringing massive duck remain.
A number of artists who enjoy pranks have taken to online platforms to jokingly claim credit but nobody has yet officially taken responsibility. The residents of Chicago are content to allow the mystery of their duck visitor to continue without resolution.
