Jonathan’s faith journey began at 13 when he transferred to a Christian school in the Philippines. There, he encountered the life-changing gospel message, which reshaped his worldview and planted a seed for ministry. By 15, he felt a profound call to become a pastor—a calling initially met with resistance by his non-Christian parents. Undeterred, Jonathan’s steadfast faith not only won their support but also led them to embrace Christianity themselves.
At 19, Jonathan moved to Columbus, Ohio, where his faith deepened through mentorship under a local church. For six years, he served in leadership and preaching roles, honing his skills and character. Now a Master of Divinity student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Jonathan is equipping himself for ministry with the same discipline he applies to his professional life.
Blending Theology With Technology
For Jonathan, theology and technology aren’t separate domains but closely linked. His passion for cybersecurity began alongside his pastoral aspirations, creating a unique balance. Working at one of the world’s leading pediatric hospitals, he uses his cybersecurity skills to fulfill one of his goals, maintaining data integrity while reflecting his faith through excellence.
He views technology as a valuable resource, a contemporary tool for advancing the Christian worldview. “God has given us these skills to steward for His glory,” he often says, highlighting how technology enables purposeful ministry. Whether it’s using social media to share biblical truths or leveraging cybersecurity to protect churches, Jonathan sees every keystroke as an opportunity to serve.
His ethical grounding in the Bible also sets him apart in the demanding cybersecurity world. Jonathan’s Christian worldview provides a moral compass, helping him make decisions that honor his faith. This alignment between professional conduct and spiritual values enhances his credibility, making him a respected figure in his field.

Jonathan’s commitment to spreading the gospel extends beyond his work. Another conference that Jonathan was invited to speak at last October was called VIGILANCE. This conference aims to educate families and churches about how to protect themselves against cybercriminals. Hernandez used his background in Cybersecurity to bring awareness to the audience about how cybercriminals do their work. He provided cybersecurity solutions and offered hope using his theological background.
A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Jonathan plans to combine pastoral work with cybersecurity. He dreams of developing a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping churches use technology effectively. “The Lord has blessed me with skills and gifts. Technology makes things easier so I’m going to use what I have to educate people with the hope from the Gospel and the importance of technology” says Hernandez. He also sees himself as supporting missionary groups by offering his technical skills to support global outreach and protect the digital assets of churches wherever it’s needed.
For Jonathan, seminary is as much about preparation as it is about deepening his faith. He believes ministry, like any professional field, requires proper training. Jonathan felt called to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary specifically. “I decided to study at Southern because it offers me a robust theological and practical training that will help me to teach, defend, and spread the Gospel confidently and clearly both in a church and in a professional setting” says Hernandez. He is enjoying every aspect of training in seminary and cybersecurity as he continues to pursue his passions.
