Driving Toward Safety: You Can Now Keep an Eye on Your Teen

The thought of your teenager getting behind the wheel can be stressful. While it’s an exciting time for teens to gain independence and responsibility, many parents understandably worry about their kids’ safety on the road considering the risk of car crashes in the country is higher among young drivers aged between 16 and 19. According to a recent report, teenagers are more likely to cause and be injured in car accidents in the US than other drivers. In 2020 alone, about 2800 teens were killed and about 227 000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes, with the leading causes of the accidents being distracted driving and inexperience. To help alleviate some of these concerns, How’s My Teen Driver has launched a program where you can keep an eye on your driving teen.

How’s My Teen Driver/ My Teen Driver (MTD) is a subscription-based service that allows you, as a parent or grandparent, to monitor your teen’s driving habits. For $8 a month, you get to add a layer of protection to your driving teen as they will know that other drivers can report their driving behavior.

The product collects data on the teen’s driving behavior, including speed and whether they use their phone while driving. This helps you identify areas where your teen may need additional guidance or coaching. Accountability also helps them make better driving decisions.

Driving schools are using MTD. How’s My Teen Driver has also worked with insurance companies, schools, and other organizations.

According to the CEO of How’s My Teen Driver, their main goal is to help keep teen drivers safe on the road and ease their parents’ worries. “Teen driving is the number one cause of death for teenagers,” says the president of How’s My Teen Driver.

Based on a report by CDC, about eight teens aged between 13 and 19 die daily due to motor vehicle crash injuries. The report further states that per every mile driven, teen drivers aged 16-19 have a fatal crash rate almost three times that of 20-year-old drivers and older.

“We want to help decrease the alarming statistic and impact how teens drive in a positive and safe way. How’s My Teen Driver is a safety-first company founded on the idea that teens need some freedom but not unlimited freedom. Letting the “Freedom” rope out a bit more slowly allows the teen driver to feel some extra accountability while forming those lifelong driving habits.”- the CEO How’s My Teen Driver.

The product is easy to use- to get started on How’s My Teen Driver, you just visit the MTD store and choose to enroll or to give as a gift, then proceed to checkout. If purchasing for your teen after checkout, you add a few details to create their individual account, and How’s My Teen Driver will ship your stickers and activate your account. It is also easy to cancel a subscription. MTD has no long-term commitment, and you can cancel anytime without penalty.

Overall, sending your teen on the road can be nerve-wracking. The risks and dangers of driving today are numerous, but then again, it’s a rite of passage, and you can’t have your kid on a leash for the rest of their life. As they learn to drive and get out into the world, How’s My Teen Driver is helping you keep your teen drivers safe without spending a lot of money.
