Saudi Arabia has responded to claims that their Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman played a role in the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The Crown Prince initially responded to the allegations by saying that Saudi leaders are just confused about the rest of the world killing each other.
On Sunday Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir stated that the government doesn’t even know where Khashoggi’s body is. The government also stated that Khashoggi was killed during a rogue operation on the island of Istanbul in a consulate.
During the interview al-Jubeir also stated that they don’t know how he was killed or where his body is. When directly asked about why an autopsy expert was brought to the scene he dodged the question as to why he was at the consulate. There have been several different recounts of what happened to Khashoggi where Saudi officials heard from Turkey that he was dismembered and given to individuals to dispose of his body. He was reportedly killed by a chokehold and rolled up into a rug before being disposed of.
Jubeir has offered his condolences to the family of Khashoggi and also said that it was a mistake that Khashoggi was killed in the consulate and the bigger mistake was trying to cover it up. To the family of the victim he said that the nation feels their pain and that he wishes it didn’t happen and that it could of all been avoided.
