Romance and Rebellion Ignite Opening Night of Bonnie & Clyde at Bay Street Theater

Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theater roared to life on Saturday, August 2, with the electrifying opening of Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical. The intimate, high-energy revival delivered grit, glamour, and heartbreak in equal measure as audiences were swept into the dangerous and passionate world of America’s most notorious outlaw couple.

Bonnie and Clyde The Musical

Directed by Bay Street’s Artistic Director Scott Schwartz, this stripped-down production reimagines the Tony-nominated musical with a bold, minimalist design that heightens its emotional punch. The score-composed by Frank Wildhorn, with lyrics by Don Black and a book by Ivan Menchell-seamlessly blends blues, gospel, and rockabilly, underscoring the fierce romance and tragic trajectory of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.

The stellar cast of ten, including Amy Bodnar, Gisela Adisa, Nick Bailey, and Lyda Jade Harlan, delivers powerhouse performances that balance raw vulnerability with outlaw swagger. Scenic designer Anna Louizos’s evocative set and Emily Maltby’s dynamic choreography work in tandem to keep the tension and rhythm pulsing throughout the evening.

The opening-night celebration drew a vibrant mix of theater lovers, notable figures, and VIP supporters. Bay Street Board of Trustees Co-chairs Lynn Mestel and Steve Todrys were joined by board members David Fink, John Frawley, Wendy Hashmall, Keith Green, Myra Hackel, Loretta Kaufman, Stewart F. Lane, Riki Kane Larimer, Leslie Mayer, Flora Schnall, Eric Segal, and Jennifer Bartley. The star-studded guest list also included supermodel and entrepreneur Christie Brinkley, fashion icon Donna Karan, Broadway director Walter Bobbie, playwright Ivan Menchell, Tony-winning producer Bonnie Comley, RKO Studios’ Ted Hartley, and former Bay Street board members Patty Baker and Adrianne Cohen, alongside a host of theater critics and reviewers.
