Mackin Talent: Recession Proof Your Team with Efficiency Planning

In the recent release of the KPMG 2022 CEO Outlook report that surveyed “1,325 global CEOs across 11 markets”, it reported that 46 percent of participating CEOs said that because of the looming recession, they “are considering downsizing their workforce over the next six months.”

Mackin Talent, the staffing agency focused on “revolutionizing the talent industry” says that downsizing during a recession isn’t your only option.

While finding outstanding employees for companies is a big part of what Mackin Talent does, they are also business consultants. Because they work with an expansive range of company needs daily, they see firsthand the mistakes many make with staffing and believe they have the solution.

Through efficiency planning, the Mackin Talent team helps companies find employment gaps that they might be missing. According to Leniece Lane, CMO of Mackin Talent, challenges with the workload aren’t necessarily a staffing problem. She says:

Most companies feeling the pinch of work overflow or inefficiencies will say, “There’s too much work. 80% of our team is at 90% capacity. We need more people, right?” But we find that when we hire according to their request, they often don’t know how the person can be best utilized. They just know that they have a lot of work that needs to be done. When this happens, we take a step back, assess company needs and discuss the person’s deliverables and the gaps they can fill in the team.

When you look at your team, you might think you need 13 positions, but when we look at the team, and the skill set and the deliverables, we may determine that you only need five. Efficiency planning is about reassessing how your teams measure success and complete projects, then identifying the gaps and the work not getting done.

Lack of People or Efficiency?

When a company moves 100 miles per hour, keeping up with all the moving parts can be challenging. This is especially true with staffing needs, especially for large companies. When a company feels the pressure of missed deadlines or work backlogs, desperation can set in. Unfortunately, this can lead to hiring when you don’t really need to, or, even worse, hiring the wrong person for the job that needs to be done.

When a company hires people they don’t need, they waste money on new hires that could be utilized to better upskill current employees. If they need more people, but hire without fully understanding how an employee will fit into the big picture, they still waste money and worse yet, they have a new employee that has zero direction on what is expected of them. It’s a no-win situation on both slides.

How Efficiency Planning and a Contingent Workforce Strategy Can Help

Mackin Talent specializes in providing premium, high-level candidates. From direct hire and SOW (scope of work) vendor teams to contract labor, Mackin has the industry knowledge and capacity to meet the needs of a variety of sectors.

The gift of working with a strong staffing company is that they can help fill immediate gaps in a company’s labor force without the extra expense of hiring a new employee. An added benefit is that if the company decides to hire an employee for that position later, they already have a trained candidate or candidates to consider.

“Recession doesn’t necessarily mean you have to lay people off. It could be just reorganizing your workforce in a more efficient manner. If you need labor support or efficiency planning, the right staffing company can be a valuable partner when funding is low and hiring a full-time employee is not feasible.”

– Leniece Lane, Mackin Talent CMO

During a recession, when finances are stretched or uncertainty has a company tightening its belt, getting an objective and experienced perspective on how to improve company efficiency is critical. Mackin, which is both a staffing company as well as a consultant, can be a great partner during a recession to help guide a company through the maze of staffing decisions and support its immediate needs without the pressure of a long-term commitment that comes with hiring a full-time employee.
