Fight Preview

Adesanya made his MMA debut in 2012 following a kickboxing career, winning over 70 fights. He joined UFC in 2018 and quickly made his place at a high rank.

Nigerian won against Kelvin Gastelum in 2019 for the interim UFC middleweight title and then against Robert Whittaker a few months later when he became champion. He defended the belt five times before losing it to Pereira.

Adesanya is widely known for his unique style of mocking his opponent. Moreover, he has an overwhelming reach (6′4) which gives him an edge over most of his opponents.

Alex Pereira is 4-0 in the UFC and 7-1-0 in mixed martial arts overall. He is a hard-hitting fighter who likes to pace himself and gets his opponent tired before unleashing lethal jabs and hooks as he looks for the killer blow which wins him games.

The pair met for the first time in 2016 at GLORY of Heroes 1 in China, where after a lot of combinations applied by both fighters, Pereira won via unanimous decision. A year later, Alex and Pereira faced each other at GLORY of Heroes 7, where Adesanya was on top until Pereira’s devastating shot to his chin dropped him.

One of the greatest strikers in UFC history

Israel Adesanya and UFC middleweight champion Alex last met at UFC 281. As always, Adesanya was in command in the first four rounds, but Alex came from behind by landing brutal shots to take the game away in the fifth round.

In the co-main event, former Welterweight title challengers No. 5 seeded Gilbert Burns (21-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) and hometown favorite No. 11 Jorge Masvidal (35-16 MMA, 12-9 UFC) will take on each other.

Jorge Masvidal is making his return after a long time. He has lost his last three straight fights, including title losses to ex-champion Kamaru Usman. Meanwhile, his number five ranked welterweight contender opponent comes from a big fresh win over Neil Magny in Rio de Janeiro.

The winner will face the winner of Colby Covington and Leon Edwards, who will likely fight for the welterweight title at some point this year. Masvidal made his MMA debut in 2003 and UFC debut in 2013, when he was 12-9. He won against Nate Diaz for the BMF title, and his win against Ben Askren was the fastest knockout in UFC history.

Also on the card, Adrian Yanez (16-3) and Rob Font (19-6) will meet in bantamweight. In another fight, Santiago Ponzinibbio (30-6) will take on Kevin Holland (23-9) at welterweight. Moreover, Christian Rodriguez (8-1) and Raul Rosas Jr (7-0) will battle at bantamweight.
