Founder & Managing Director of igroup Steve Rastall on The Virtues of Solid Cloud Infrastructure

Steve Rastall is an entrepreneur, managing director, and founder of igroup – the premier providers of cloud infrastructure management software. The migration from local to cloud-based infrastructures is a long and arduous one for many companies, and throughout his tenure as managing director of igroup he has seen every issue that can avail itself.

Igroup released their seminal software for management of cloud infrastructure ‘CAMS’ last year to wonderous reviews and reception. He took the time to sit down with us and answer a few questions about cloud infrastructure, a little about how it came to be, and where it’s going in the future.

Hey Steve, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today, let’s start off with you telling us a little about yourself & igroup.

Hey, thanks for having me. Well, my name is Steve Rastall and I’m the founder and managing director of igroup which assists clients with cloud infrastructure automation and management – among many other things. I have always had a passion for technology and the latest innovations that are taking place in the front and back-end of infrastructures and what they can do for companies.

I started igroup back in 2005 and was joined by my current management team only a year later – Garry Forsyth and Chris Fennell joined igroup back in 2006 and we are still running the show to this day!

Can you tell us a little about the CloudOps Active Management Solution & what it means for companies using a cloud infrastructure?

Certainly, the CloudOps Active Management Solution or CAMS is a system that we have been developing since we first got involved with cloud technology back in 2010. It is our always-on cloud support and management solution that negates a lot of the issues that companies often have with cloud infrastructure which includes hidden costs and poor performance.

We give IT departments in companies more control over their cloud’s infrastructure with automated solutions and consistent checkups that monitor for suspicious activity, non-optimal performance, unused assets that are costing money etc. Through our years as managers for clients, we collected the most common issues that tended to occur and dealt with them with CAMS, taking the burden off companies and allowing them to focus on what they do best – their work.

What makes your solution better than any other CMS on the market?

As I mentioned before, our system is the first of its kind to offer  complete and automated management of cloud infrastructure. There are a number of cloud management services on the market that don’t even offer budget alerts or analyses of asset usages – CAMS does. We offer a more comprehensive solution because we have been working in the field for so long and have seen the prevailing errors and issues that plague companies with poor cloud infrastructure.

Are cloud infrastructures an inevitability for companies?

Yes. I think as time has gone on and we have become more network savvy and digital as a species, the notion of local infrastructure will be less and less relevant or powerful. The scalability and overall efficacy and conveniences offered by the cloud will be too hard to put back into the bottle.

The issues will always be present for companies so I would suggest that if you’re considering making the switch to a cloud infrastructure, do it now!

What has been one of your proudest moments with igroup?

I think that has to be updated constantly, each client we help to save money or have a better experience with the cloud thanks to our system is a proud moment for me. I recall LogicMelon’s story of being able to adapt and expand after we managed to help them convert to our cloud infrastructure. In a little over 2 weeks we crafted a new infrastructure and they were saving over 50% of their funds quoted from other solutions. We’re still managing their infrastructure and loving every moment.

What’s next for igroup and CAMS?

We are always excited to see what happens next with cloud infrastructure and technology in general. With the pandemic moving behind us finally it will be very interesting to see how businesses and companies react to the changing landscape and working culture. One thing is for sure, the cloud is not going anywhere, and we look forward to improving our service and products throughout.

Thank you Steve for your time!
