Rising hip hop star Tayong discusses his musical inspirations and teases exciting new songs and collaborations

With a deep passion for music, Tayong has been busy creating an original collection of unique and inspiring songs. After releasing his debut album ‘Incipience’ in 2020, Tayong has become one of hip hop’s most exciting rising stars. He speaks about the motivation behind his music-making process, his dream collaborators and teases the release of a second album later this year.

Hi Tayong thanks for speaking with us, can you start by introducing yourself?

Hello, I’m a recording artist born in Luton, England. Music is all I’ve ever been in-to. I’m a creative. I’m all for creating.

How long have you been making music?

I recorded my first song 15 years ago and never looked back. I feel my love for music only grows as the years go by. Though I’ve never really been in the limelight, my passion has kept me consistent with making music over the years.

Was music always something you wanted to do?

Yes, it was. I remember seeing Michael Jackson performing on TV when I was around 6, from that moment I knew that’s what I wanted to do. It was nothing to do with how famous he was, but all about how talented and determined he was with his craft. He was dancing like I’d never seen and it was amazing how he was able to move the crowd.

How would you describe the music you make?

Its inspirational, it’s original. I like to create the type of music that uplifts me or makes me think or makes me bounce my head because the flow is going crazy.

What is the main inspiration for your songs?

That would be the instrumental itself, the production I’m performing on. When I make a song I freestyle to the beat which gives me a natural vibe on my songs. The beat inspires me to decide which direction I should go flow wise, melody wise and even context wise.

You’ve recently released ‘Trio’ a collection of three exciting new songs. Can you tell us what the process was like when making those?

These 3 songs I wrote and engineered myself. They were produced by my good friend SAV. I’ve recently recorded a joint album with him which we actually plan to release by the end of the year.

When making the joint album with SAV, there were some songs which didn’t quite fit well with both of us on them. I then ended up compiling 3 of those songs into the ‘Trio’ EP.

The 3 songs are me showcasing my talents but also speaking about things I believe people need to hear. I could have spent way more time mastering them but I’m still learning and am finally connecting with the right people to bring my sound to perfection.

Who is your dream artist to collaborate with?

Redman – who I’ve had the honour of meeting twice, thanks to my friend Josh Gannet. Redman is such a humble legend and I respect not just him as a hip hop artist but as a person.

I’m even sitting here asking myself why I didn’t ask him for a feature when I met him TWICE but I’m a patient kind of person, I believe that when the time is right and if it’s supposed to happen, it will.

Can we expect more music soon?

You can expect a load of new music. I’m in the studio right now working on new songs and collaborations. You can find my newest music on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music etc.
