Hi Dr. Lynn, thanks for speaking with us. Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
Thanks so much for this opportunity. To tell you a bit about me, I’ve been a researcher all my life with a great interest in beauty and natural health. I started with opening a beauty salon almost 30 years ago. After that I went on to study Nutrition, Naturopathy, and Homeopathy. I’ve worked in the natural health field for most of my life.
What drew you to the natural health and beauty industry?
I had a lot of health issues when I was young so that started my journey of searching for natural solutions and learning more about nutrition. I realized I can help others with my tools and continued learning, researching, and teaching ever since. I have to say that my views on many things, especially nutrition, have changed and evolved considerably throughout the years. I wholeheartedly believed that a vegetarian or vegan diet was the only healthy option and sadly this led to further health issues for me. Today, I feel like I have finally found and understood what a healthy human diet is. At 51, I can honestly say that I feel healthier and more energetic than I felt in my 20s.
Beauty has remained a passion for me. I’ve attended the largest beauty expo in Bologna, Italy several times and have tried many different treatments. I always get excited by the latest gadgets and devices and spend a lot of time researching the latest techniques in anti-aging.
What was the inspiration behind your digital guide The Aging Games?
Friends have been telling me for years to write a book about all my research as they’ve been listening to me preach for so many years. I’ve lived such a busy and active life that I couldn’t imagine sitting down for months and just writing. I love hiking, swimming, traveling—anything to be out of the house. Then came the lockdown and that changed everything. For months we weren’t even allowed to leave our homes, and I felt like I was going crazy. So I did something that brought me kicking and screaming out of my comfort zone, and that was to start a YouTube channel called The Aging Games. I have to credit my husband for coming up with the name. After a couple of months of making videos, I still felt like I had too much time on my hands and too many ideas in my head, so I started to write my book, The Aging Games – How To Come Out a Winner. The first idea was just to have a digital guide but then so many people were asking for hard copies that I decided to offer this as an option on Amazon.
What can people expect to find in the guide?
Well, the first thing they can expect is to have their whole world turned upside down. Pretty much everything we think we know about aging, health, and nutrition is not just wrong, but the exact opposite of what we are being told. I really had to learn this the hard way at the expense of my own health. I mean, do we really need to drink liters of water every day? Where did that even come from? Oh, I know, from the people selling us bottled water. What about cholesterol? You know that dreaded substance that will destroy your heart and kill you before your time? Well cholesterol is actually essential for our survival. In fact your body makes 3,000 milligrams of cholesterol in your liver every day. That’s the equivalent to what’s found in 333 strips of bacon, 14 eggs, or 1 pound of butter. Surely our bodies wouldn’t be manufacturing this to harm us in any way.
Cholesterol is essential in building the structure of cell membranes. It is also the precursor of hormones like estrogen, testosterone, and androgens. Additionally, it helps your metabolism work more efficiently and cholesterol is essential for your body to produce vitamin D.
And speaking of Vitamin D, the sun is also not our enemy and never has been. If you’re worried about sun damage and skin cancer then you need to look to your diet and not hide from the sun or, even worse, slather on toxic sunscreen.
Additionally, many of the skin care products you may be using to halt the aging process are actually aging you faster due to all the questionable ingredients they contain.
What effect do you think feeling younger has on people’s confidence?
I personally think the effect is huge. Especially for us women. What we see in the mirror in the morning or on the bathroom scale can affect how we feel the whole day, how we perform at work, relate to others, etc. I’m sure you can all relate to that amazing feeling when you wake up, you look fresh and rested, your hair looks perfect, your clothes fit great and you feel like you’re ready to take on the world. I know this may sound superficial, but it’s part of our culture and I actually don’t think there’s anything wrong with feeling and looking our best and looking much younger than our age. There’s this saying that after 40 everybody gets the face they deserve. Meaning when you’re young, you can get away with sleepless nights, too much drinking, junk food, etc., but eventually all this will catch up with you and will show on your face. There’s no escaping this.
When you take good care of yourself, on the inside and out, that will also show and you will have a radiating glow and a confidence that will be admired by others. Again, this goes back to the healthy mind, body and soul combo. All three things need to be on par.
Why do you think it’s important to explore natural ways of looking and feeling younger?
I really believe that our goal should not be to just extend lifespan but to extend the quality of our lives. I have no desire to live 20 years longer if I’m suffering from all kinds of degenerative diseases and I have no quality of life. I want to go singing and dancing into my 80s, 90s and maybe even beyond. The only way to do this is to take full responsibility for your health and this can only be done by natural means and not by medications prescribed for masking symptoms. When you’re healthy and feeling younger, you will most certainly also be looking younger on the outside. You will radiate youth, vitality, and optimal health. There’s just no other way.
What has the feedback been from the book so far?
I’m so fortunate to have received nothing but positive feedback. It especially means a lot when the positive reviews are coming from doctors, nurses, or people in the beauty industry. In the beginning, I was genuinely worried as some of my teachings are really “out there” and I didn’t know how they would be received and perceived. But I think once people get over their genuine shock, they see the research and the logic behind what I’m saying. Let me give you an example: I just got this lovely email from Lorraine in the UK:
“I bought this digital download today. I’ve a nursing and holistic background and am fairly well read. I also believe I’m quite knowledgeable about anti-aging health complementary therapies etc. So I was expecting to be fairly underwhelmed. Wow. This is the first book I’ve read in years that’s taught me anything new and genuinely worthwhile and I’m only a few chapters in. This book really is worth the money, I totally recommend it.”
Getting these kinds of reviews literally melts my heart and I feel like all my hard work was worth it as I really am making a difference in the lives of others.
Finally, what is the fundamental piece of advice you would give to people hoping to look and feel younger?
I think the most important thing when it comes to aging gracefully is to go back to the fundamentals of good health and nutrition. I also believe that healthy body, mind, and soul must happen in unison in order to see these positive changes on the outside. We need to nourish the body with the right diet for humans and the right exercise for our stage of life. We need to feed the soul with lots of time in nature, grounding and meditation. We also need to fuel the mind by reading, playing, socializing and learning new things. All we have to do is look back at our ancestors and how we lived before agriculture and technology. How important human contact was. How we cycled between eating and fasting. What kind of water we drank and how much. How we spent time in the sun, in the sea, with our bare feet connected to the earth. If we look at tribes around the world, still living this way and eating their ancestral diet, they have no cancer, no heart disease. They don’t die in agony but peacefully in their sleep. And old age is not shunned but celebrated.
My ultimate goal with The Aging Games Guide is to reawaken this knowledge in everyone and to combine ancient wisdom and modern technology to truly slow down, and in many cases reverse, the aging process.
Thank you for your time Dr. Lynn!
