How To Get Slacks To Stop Falling Off Hangers

It’s every clothing retailer’s biggest challenge: how to display slacks on trouser coat hangers in a way that looks good and doesn’t result in them slipping to the floor. If you need some top tips for this, then we’ve got some for you!

You’ll be pleased to know, there are simple fixes that will keep your slacks in place.

How to hang your slacks properly

Before you go anywhere near your hangers for clothes, you’ll need to fold your slacks in the right way. Do this on a flat surface for ease.

Find the crease on both legs and fold them along it, so both legs are together. Then fold the top leg towards the waistband and place the coat hanger for trousers on the bottom leg, with the hook facing the leg opening.

You can then fold both legs over the hanger in opposite directions. This simple technique holds the slacks in place with ease. You will need to straighten the legs so they look neat and tidy on the hanger, but this is a great method.

We’ve found a fantastic video that explains this trick well. Watch it and be amazed!

One of the great things about slacks, is that they are made of a lovely light material that feels great on the skin. Unfortunately, this does also mean that the above method may not always be the best one.

If you’re still struggling with keeping your trousers in place and specially adapted pants coat hangers aren’t an option, you can make your own clips.

Small binder clips are relatively inexpensive and do a fantastic job. If you find they leave indentations, these can be easily steamed out. You can also buy special hanger hooks for this purpose, which might be a better choice if you don’t always have time to steam.

Consider different display options

If you’re still finding piles of slacks around your store, you might want to consider other ways of displaying your pants. Perhaps, instead of trouser coat hangers, you could fold the slacks in neat piles. In this case, you should keep a mannequin nearby wearing the slacks, so customers can see how they are expected to hang, as this will influence their buying choices.

And, if you’re determined to stick to hangers for clothes displays, then you might want to think about using L-shaped hangers instead of the traditional triangular ones. These are more convenient for when you actually do want to remove the pants. Avoid wire hangers, as these will leave wrinkles in the fabric.

Finally, always give your slacks plenty of space on the clothes rail. This will reduce the amount of movement as people browse your rail, so they are more likely to stay in place.
