Chang-Hun Chung is a South Korean-German bodybuilder and athlete. In 2019, Chung won the German championship in bodybuilding and is a member of the International Federation of Body Building and Fitness.
He has over 20k followers on Instagram and garners between 1k to 2k likes on other social networks such as YouTube and Facebook. In addition to his body building he owns Physiques Unlimited and inspires others to work towards their health and fitness goals.
Hi Chang-Hun, can you tell us a bit about yourself to start?
Hi, my name is Chang-Hun Chung, I grew up in South Korea but have lived in Germany for over 15 years. I have been working as a personal trainer in the field of figure optimization and bodybuilding since 2014. Sport has always been my passion and I tried many different sports before I landed on my field of interest. I started with Tae-Kwon-Do martial arts when I was a child. So, from an early stage, I acquired good coordination skills.
How did you become interested in personal training?
It has always been a great pleasure for me to help people and assist them in achieving their goals. My friends often came to me and asked for tips on how best to lose weight or build muscle. When I saw that some friends of mine had achieved good results and, above all, were still motivated, I was very pleased. Before the official personal training started, I already worked as a fitness trainer in a fitness studio and did a lot of advanced training to gain experience and acquire more knowledge. After realizing that personal training is a very fulfilling job, I finally decided to start my own business.
Was it hard work to get to where you are today?
I wouldn’t call the whole thing tough as I didn’t force myself to do it. I just did what I enjoyed. It was not easy to perform personal training services, study, train 6 times a week, and take part in several competitions at the same time but it was very fulfilling and it made me even more resilient today than before.

What kind of training plans does your business Physiques Unlimited offer?
I am currently offering coaching for 6 or 12 months. The coaching usually includes several personal training units. Personal training or nutritional advice can also be booked individually. I now have international customers from Korea, UK and Canada. I offer online coaching for customers who I cannot coach in person. This way every customer gets their individual nutrition and training plans and it also allows for a strategy to be worked on that determines how we can achieve their goals in the best possible way.
How important is diet and nutrition for getting fit?
Diet is a very important factor in being fit, but it is not the only one. In the fitness scene, it is said that success is based on the 70:30 principle. That is to say, diet is 70% of success and 30% is the rest. I have a different view. I think that physical activity or training is at least as important as the diet itself. What many also forget is that regeneration is a very large factor that determines whether you are really fit or not. Constant exercise and a good diet can be good for a while but if your regeneration is burdened, i.e. you sleep too little or you have too much stress from work, your health will suffer in the long term.
How does the increase in the promotion of fatty and sugary foods affect people’s health?
It all depends on how much you consume something. Basically, you shouldn’t always be in a calorie surplus, as the body stores the excess energy in fat reserves in places where we don’t want it. Second, one should pay attention to the quality of the food. For example, I would completely avoid trans fats. Try to find a good balance between protein, carbohydrates and fat in order to reach your goals and try to get these mostly from whole foods. If you follow a clean diet over the long term, then you can also treat yourself to a cheat meal. This won’t necessarily harm your health.
How do you motivate people to achieve their goals?
I work with one goal in mind. If people have a certain goal that they want to achieve, then the motivation is usually higher and lasts longer than if you train and eat without aim. The most important thing, however, is that people realize that training and diet changes can also be fun. You don’t have to force people to be motivated if they are having fun with the thing.

What advice do you have for people looking to start their fitness journey?
Be patient. Patience is really the most important thing to bring. Shaping and transforming your body is a long and hard road at times. Some make it in one year and some take 5 years to reach their goal. Depending on your genetics and the use of your energy, your goal will be reached sooner or later. Stay tuned and don’t give up!
