How Andrew Butterworth and the team at Manchester Mortgage provide expert mortgage advice to their clients

Hi Andrew, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got your start in the financial services industry?

I started in Financial Services in 1988 working as an Area Representative for Pearl Assurance after being recommended by a family friend who also worked for them.

What made you decide that financial advice, particularly mortgages, was something that you wanted to specialize in?

I decided after a variety of roles within Financial Services in 1999 that Mortgages was the area I was going to specialize in. This was due to personally having had some bad advice from an estate agents mortgage adviser.

Can you tell us about how you founded Manchester Mortgages?

After working for a Mortgage Broker offering advice to clients buying new build property, I decided that I would be able to provide a much better service to clients who wanted to buy other property other than new build.

I struck up a relationship with an Estate Agent and an Accountant and started in September 2001.

What exactly can you and your company do for clients?

We provide a fully comprehensive service to First Time Buyers and Home Movers. We advise on all aspects of the house buying process by discussing their personal circumstances, making a recommendation, completing the mortgage application and liaising with Solicitors, Estate Agents and any other third parties. We also ensure that clients have full understanding and what happens at each stage of the process.

In addition, we are able to provide and arrange protection of their mortgage.

What makes Manchester Mortgages different from other companies?

We care about our customers. We will keep in contact with our customer once the mortgage has completed. We advise them what options are available to them once their fixed/tracker rates end, ensuring that they never pay more for their mortgage than they need to. We are always available to provide advice at any time.

Your company is known for its customer-first attitude. How important is this to you?

Making a good first impression is so important. We need to be able to demonstrate that we are trustworthy and make clients feel comfortable with the service we can offer them.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of your job?

Receiving recommendations from existing clients. It proves that we have provided a service that clients have been so happy with that they are confident enough to recommend us.

What fundamental advice would you give to someone preparing to arrange a mortgage?

Ensure that you keep a close eye on your credit file. Ensure all your information is kept accurately. Sit down and work out your budget for Mortgage payments which you can comfortably afford.

Speak with a Mortgage broker who can look at all the lenders in the market so that you get the best options available.
