Bryn Carden Offers 10 Tips on How to Freshen Up Your Home in the New Year

Out with the old and in with the new is an excellent way to start any year fresh. Changes are what write life chapters, which is why resolutions are such a big deal during the new year. While many individuals choose to focus their mental game on increasing healthy habits, others want a breath of crisp and innovative air to influence the feng shui of their homes.

Bryn Carden, designer and co-founder of BF Hats, always smartens up her home at the start of a new year. She believes exercising her talents and passion for design welcomes positivity and influences her mindset going into the new year for the better. In this article, Carden shares ten simple tips that make a significant presence in any home:

Tip #1. Declutter

The New Year is the perfect time to declutter your home and start with a spiffy clean space. It is easy for rooms around the house to get messy fast after the holiday rush and decorations lingering.

Tip #2. Create an “every day” area

Take a moment and think about the essential things that you tend to reach for on a day-to-day basis. Do you have a favorite pair of house shoes? Maybe a coat you reach for before running out the door? Creating an area that hosts all of your go-to items makes staying organized for the year easier.

Tip #3. Make a resolutions corner

A new year means making resolutions and setting goals. Pick a space in your home and design it to align with how best to meet your success plans: a reading space, mini-gym, or work area with a new planner.

Tip #4. Pick fresh flowers

An excellent way to brighten a room is picking flowers from outside or grabbing a few already cut during your next grocery run. A clear glass vase to hold flowers is a great versatile piece for any style.

Tip #5. Bring something old back to life

Find something around the house that could use some life. Old dressers or coffee tables are great to repaint for a fun upcycle project for inexpensive.

Tip #6. New sheets and covers

Ah, new sheets and covers are like a warm cup of tea that leaves you feeling cozy and refreshed, often prompting a better night’s sleep. They also are a great way to keep the bedroom clean and give an updated look.

Tip #7. Find a favorite art piece

A contemporary piece of art can bring a whole new attitude to any space. You can find one from the store or let inspiration take over a blank canvas and make your own.

Tip #8. Purchase a house plant

House plants make a fabulous addition to spruce up a space. They help a room to breathe easily, literally. Living plants can remove toxins from indoor air.

Tip #9. Bring in some light

Brighten any home by adding light. Mix and match floor or table lamps throughout your house or bring a different vibe with swag lamps or string lights.

Tip #10. Paint the front door

Make a change that puts a smile on your face every time you walk up to your home, like painting the front door with a pop of color. Depending on your home’s exterior, you can paint your front door yellow, red, or turquoise.
