Professional Swiss basketball player Arnaud Barapila has been playing ball for a long time. In fact, he’s been going strong for 14 seasons now, and is still in the game. At just 34 years old, he’s still got some great years left in him, and may even one-up the great gameplay he delivered this year, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic changing the game.
Perhaps due to things changing, Arnaud had an exceptional year. He played well by any measure. Throughout the 2019/2020 season, while playing with Meyrin Geneve, Arnaud was averaging 8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He finished the season playing 14 games with Meyrin Geneve during the regular Switzerland – LNBM season, setting a season-high by scoring 17 points in 23 minutes while playing against Sion Basket. He also ended up getting 10 rebounds within 27 minutes while playing against Morges-Saint-Prex. Additionally, Arnaud provided his team with 3 assists in 27 minutes against Morges-Saint-Prex as well. He also managed to get a double-double, while also scoring in double figures 5 times over the course of 14 games.
Going back to the 2008/2009 season, Arnaud has been racking up achievements and demonstrating solid gameplay on the court. During that initial season, he played in the LNB championship with Vernier against Union Neuchatel. This was a great foray into the world of Swiss basketball, given the match was an intense one, and one that ended in someone on the opposing team getting head trauma.
Union ended up beating Arnaud’s team 81-65 that season, so it wasn’t an overall win for his team but it was a game where he demonstrated his worth as a professional basketball player. In fact, he would end up becoming eligible for the NBA draft in 2009. However, he wasn’t drafted to the highly-esteemed and selective NBA.
Beyond that 2008/2009 season, Armand has had a number of achievements as well. He is a 1x champion LNA for Switzerland’s 1st division, Geneva Devils 2003/2004. He also holds four LNB titles for Switzerland 2nd division.
In addition to these achievements, Arnaud also boasts some great wins for Bernex Basket (2009/2010), Lausanne Foxies (2013/2014 & 2014/2015), and Vevey Riviera Basket (2016/2017). He is also a 1x Champion Italia for Pallacanestro Cantù (2010/2011).
Arnaud is currently playing for Union Lavaux Riviera and wearing #13 on his jersey. This highly experienced Swiss basketball player has managed to be a major asset for Lavaux this season. His recent achievement was him leading his team to an LNB championship despite playing in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Whether he continues to play as well as he did during this unusual season remains to be seen. However, Arnaud has been playing increasingly well over the past couple of seasons, so it’s likely that he will continue to be delivering his A-game down on the basketball court.
